compound :- a compound is a substance which is formed by the combination of two or more element in a fixed proportion by weight .
for example water is a compound formed by combination of 89% Oxygen and 11% hydrogen by weight irrespective of its source .

element :- it cannot be broken into more similar form by chemical method it is the composed of atoms of one kind only which have the same atomic number .
