Question :-

• Define elements classification it with examples ?

Answer :-

Element

  • An element is a pure substance that made from a single type of atom. They can be solid, liquid, or gas. Or

  • The smallest or purest form of matter which is composed of atom having same atomic number and which can't be further simplified by ordinary process is called element.

  • There are 118 elements in periodic table in which 92 is natural and 26 is artificial ( prepare by man made ).

Elements can be classified as :

  1. Metals,
  2. Nonmetals,
  3. Metalloids.

1. Metals = The elements which have tendency to loose electrons or Negative Ion are called Metals and hence such a character is known as metallic character.

Example of metals :

→ Sodium (Na), Potassium (k), Magnesium (Mg), Aluminium (Al), Calcium (Ca) Barium (Ba) are some Metals.

2. Non - Metals = The elements which have a tendency to gain electrons or Negative Ion are called Non - Metals.

Example of Non - Metals :

→ Oxygen (o), Hydrogen (H), Nitrogen (N), Sulphur (s), Fluorine (F), Chlorine (Cl) are some Non - Metals.

3. Metalloids = Some element show the properties of both metal and non - metals are called Metalloids.

Example of Metalloids :

→ Silver (Ag), Copper (Cu) are best conductor of electricity.
