Genetics is a branch of biology concerned with the study of genes, genetic variation, and heredity in organisms.
A mutation is the alteration of the nucleotide sequence of the genome of an organism or extrachromosomal DNA. Mutations result from errors during DNA replication or other types of damage to DNA, which then may undergo error-prone repair or else may cause an error during replication.
