Geosyncline is a term in Geology which refers to a subsiding linear trough that was caused by the accumulation of sedimentary rock strata deposited in a basin which was subsequently compressed, deformed, and uplifted into a mountain range.

Geosyncline is depression on the earth surface formed due pressure of  sedimentary materials .It is formed due to uplifting of adjacent sediments on the surface. Uplifting of the sediments on the basin occurs due to the contraction force that makes  sedimentary  materials to contract resulting to the formation of repeated troughs and ridges.
