Heya!

Temporary hardness of water is caused by the dissolved calcium hydrogencarbonate. It can be removed by boiling.

Permanent hardness of water is caused by the dissolved calcium sulphate which cannot be removed by boiling the water. In such cases, we use soda or iron- exchange resin which softens the water and it removes the permanent hardness of water easily.

hope this helps :)

Answer:

Permanent hardness is hardness (mineral content) that cannot be removed by boiling. When this is the case, it is usually caused by the presence of calcium sulfate and/or magnesium sulfates in the water, which do not precipitate out as the temperature increases.
