\huge{\sf{\underline{\pink{HCF - Highest \ Common \ Factor }}}}

★The Highest Common Factor of two or more given numbers is the greatest number which is a common factor of the given numbers , Therefore, it is also known as GCD

.

★The HCF of two or more numbers is always less than or equal to any of the numbers.

★The HCF of co-primes is 1.

★The HCF of two or more prime numbers is always 1.

★The HCF of two consecutive number is 1.

★If one numbers is a multiple of other then the HCF of these two numbers is the smaller number.

There are three methods to find HCF of number :-

\sf{1) \ Common \ Factor \ Method}

\sf{2) \ Prime \  factorisation \ Method}

\sf{3) \ Long \ Division \ Method}

HCF is the short form of Highest Common Factor.

★ It is the largest possible positive integer that divides two or more than 2 integers without making any remainders or remainder = 0.

★ We can find HCF of numbers using Long Division Method too.

★ For Example ;

Let us consider two numbers 24 and 16.

The factors of 24 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24.

The factors of 16 are 1, 2, 4, 8, 16.

here the common factors among 24 and 16 are 1, 2, 4, 8.

Here 8 is the largest number . Therefore 8 is the HCF of 24 and 16.

★ HCF is also known as Greatest Common Divisor or Greatest Common Factor (GCD).

The HCF of coprimes = 1. ( Coprimes

are set of integers or numbers that have only 1 as their common factor).
