hydrocarbons are the compounds containing carbon and hydrogen as there major constituents.
as a pollutants, hydrocarbons are those pollutants which don't pollute the environment in it's original form but pollutes when burnt in air.
hydrocarbons when burned produce carbon dioxide which is a green house gas. in incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide is also produced which is a poisonous gas. hence hydrocarbons are pollutants.
