The body’s power to resist and overcome infection is called immunity.

Natural immunity - It is also called innate (in born) immunity. It is inherited by the

organism from the parents and protects it from birth throughout life. This immunity is virtue

of genetic constitutional make-up.

Acquired immunity It is developed by an animal in response to a disease caused by

infection of microbes. Acquired immunity is specific and is mediated by antibodies or

lymphoid cells.

Immunity means the body is immune to a disease. It is due to the presence of antibodies against the disease in our body which causes microorganisms known as antigens. Antibodies are produced when these antigens invade our body which prevent the disease.

Natural immunity means that, since birth, a person has certain antibodies.

Example = Whenever antigens indicate cholera is entering the body the person is not going to suffer from this disease.

Acquired immunity means that once an antibody for a specific disease that produces antigens are produced in the body while a person suffers from a disease, then he does not get the same disease again.
