A stimulus will stimulate receptors in sensory organs to produce electrical disturbances known as nerve impulses . These impulses are sent along the nerves to the brain. The brain receives the message and interprets it . Depending , on the message , it decides what to do . The brain sends nerve impulses to related effectors .

A nerve impulse is the relaying of a coded signal from a nerve cell to an effector (a muscle cell, a gland cellor another nerve cell) in response to a stimulus. It is the means by which a nerve cell communicates with another cell. This signal is relayed along the axon of the nerve cell, bringing a message that instructs an effector to act.
