Inertia is the resistance other any physical object to change it's position and state of motion. This includes changes to the object's speed, direction, or state of rest. Inertia is also defined as the tendency of objects to keep moving in a straight line et a constant velocity

The tendency of a body to remain in its state of rest or uniform motion even when compelled by an external unbalanced force Is called Inertia.

Eg: When the car which is in motion comes to a rest, the person sitting in the car tends to continue moving. This shows that he is obeying the law of inertia.
