Ionization Enthalpy:-

the energy required to remove an electron from the isolated gaseous state of the atom in it's ground state.

Trends:-

  • size of atom is inversely proportional to ionization enthalpy.
  • nuclear charge is directly proportional to the ionization enthalpy.
  • screening effect is inversely proportional to the ionization enthalpy.
  • penetrating effect is directly proportional to ionization enthalpy.
  • ionization enthalpy is higher in atoms with stable electronic configuration ( high filled and fully filled configuration)
