Kinetic friction is a frictional force that acts between moving surfaces, i.e. surfaces that have a speed above 0. When a body moves across a surface, it is opposed by a force in the opposite direction, thus, slowing it down. The magnitude of the force depends on the coefficient of kinetic friction between the two material. For example, if two polished material slide across one another, the coefficient of kinetic friction for those two will be low, and therefore, there will be less kinetic friction.
