the latent heat is used in change of state of matter such as from solid to liquid or from liquid to gas without changing in temperature of the system.
1. latent heat of fusion - when solid changes into liquid heat requires change in state without change in temperature the change of solid into liquid state is an exothermic reaction as heat is required in it.
2. latent heat of vaporisation- when liquid change into gas without the change in temperature does the heat supply is used in Breaking the bond this process is endothermic as heat is involved.

The word latent mean hidden. It is the amount of heat require to convert the state of unit mass of a substance/unit volume of a substance into liquid State.
:- vapours state without any rise in the temperature.
