MAGNETIC FIELD

The magnetic flux is defined in magnetic field in the same way as the electric flux in an electric field.

Let me give a brief explanation of magetic flux

Consider a small surface of area A. Let n be the unit vector which is drawn normal to the surface. If 'θ' is the angle between n and the uniform magnetic field B(bar) then the magnetic flux (Ф) through the surface is defined as

                   Ф = B(bar) . A(bar) = (B(bar) , n(cap) A

where n(bar) = unit vector along the normal drawn to the plane of the surface.

A = Area of the magnetic field bounded by the surface.

     Ф = (B cos θ) A

Now B cos θ is the component of the magnetic field normal to the plane of the surface and can be represented as Bn. Hence Ф = BnA

Thus, magnetic flux over a given surface is defined as the product of the area of the surface and the component of the magnetic field normal to the surface (Bn)

CGS UNIT OF FLUX IS ''Maxwell'' (Mx)
