In matriarchal theory of state a woman had more than one husband and there was no, male head and there was no permanent marriage system and family. This theory is very old. The oldest female or mother is the head of the family. The earliest form of life was in a tribe or totem group. Children of this group did not know their fathers and their mothers.
In this theory people were organised in tribes ,hordes or bands. Matriarchal theory was former to the patriarchal theory. This theory explain the formation of family but not the formation of state.
In today's modern world we find evidences of matriarchal theory in the Ancient people of Indonesia, Australia ,Red Indians of North America, Malaya, Madagascar.
The notable supporters of matriarchal theory are McLennan, Morgan & Jenks.
