According to patriarchal theory of the state is the extension and development of the family.In the patriarchal theory of the state the head of the family was father and men are in authority over women and are considered superior.
Sir Henry Maine is the chief supporter of the patriarchal theory. Following are the some important points in Maine's patriarchal theory.
1.The eldest male parent in the family was the controlling authority.
2. The lives of the family members and the property of the family had been under the control of the eldest male parent.
3. As the time passes the family increased and clans formed.
