define mixture explain its types & properties
Answers
or
mixture is formed when two or more substances are mixed together in any ratio.
mixtures are mainly of 2 types -(i) homogeneous mixture (ii) heterogeneous mixture
(i)homogeneous mixture- the mixture which have uniform composition throughout the medium.
(ii) heterogeneous mixture-the mixture which have different compositions throughout the medium
Answer:
1.Mixture:-
In chemistry, a mixture is a material made up of two or more different chemical substances which are not chemically bonded. A mixture is the physical combination of two or more substances in which the identities are retained and are mixed in the form of solutions, suspensions and colloids
2.Types of Mixtures:-
(i)Heterogeneous Mixture:- A mixture of sand mixed with salt is an example of a heterogeneous mixture. Heterogeneous mixtures possess different properties and compositions in various parts i.e. the properties are not uniform throughout the mixture.
Examples of Heterogeneous mixtures – air, oil, and water, etc.
(ii)Homogeneous Mixture:- Sugar mixed with water is the most common example of a homogeneous mixture. Homogeneous mixtures can be defined as the mixtures which possess the same properties and combination throughout their mass.
Examples of Homogeneous mixtures – alloys, salt, and water, alcohol in water, etc.
3. Some of the important properties of Mixtures are:-
(i) All the components or substances in a mixture retain their original physical properties.
(ii) The mixture can be separated into its components physically by using some techniques.
(iii) The components in a mixture may or may not be in a fixed proportion and can vary in quantity.
