mixture sediment and supernatant

In this method, the mixture is allowed to stand undisturbed for sometime. The insoluble solid substance settles down and a clear liquid is left standing. This clear liquid is called as supernatant liquid. The solid substance that settles down is called sediment. This entire process is known as sedimentation.

Mixture sediment :

Sedimentation is the process of allowing particles in suspension in water to settle out of the suspension under the effect of gravity. Sedimentation is one of several methods for application prior to filtration: other options include dissolved air flotation and some methods of filtration.

Mixture supernatant :

The dense particles sediment at the bottom and this is referred to as a pellet. The remaining solution or the isolated specimen is known as the supernatant. The supernatant is composed of the lighter particles which make it to float over the denser sediment or precipitate
