When an acid and base reacts with each other to produce a salt and water as a result of reaction is known as Neutralization Reaction. The hydronium ions of acids and Hydroxyl ions of Base reacts to generate water. When a strong acid reacts with a strong base, the resultant salt may result of PH 7.

Example – 1: When Sodium hydroxide is added to hydrochloric acid. Sodium chloride and water are formed.

NaOH+HCl⟶NaCl+H2O

Example - 2: Milk of magnesia, which is a base, is given as antacid in the case of indigestion, to neutralize the more acid produced in the stomach.

Mg(OH)2+2HCl⟶MgCl2+2H2O
