The central and the most important part of an eukaryotic cell is the nucleus. It controlls the whole cell. It is covered by a double layered membrane which is called as nuclear envelope and has genetics materials. This membrane seems to be continuous with the endoplasmic reticulum. Nucleoli are small bodies often seen within the nucleus; they play an important part in the synthesis of ribonucleic acid (RNA) and protein. The gel-like matrix in which the nuclear components are suspended is the nucleoplasm. The nucleus is the organelle which houses chromosomes. When a cell is "resting" i.e. not dividing, the chromosomes are organized into long entangled structures called cromatin. Nucleoplasm is the gelatinous substance within the nuclear envelope. Substances are exchanged between the cytoplasm and nucleoplasm through nuclear pores.
