Overloading means means too much load on any body, which it cannot withstand for longer periods.
Short circuit means an electrical circuit in a device of lower resistance than that of a normal circuit, especially one resulting from the unintended contact of components and consequent accidental diversion of the current....

Hey Friend,
Short circuiting - When there is a low resistance, excess power flows through the circuit. This sometimes causes the breaking of insulation of wires, and the wires come in contact, resulting in electric fires and damage to appliances.
Overloading - When many appliances are connected and switched on at the same time, it causes a strain on the circuit, resulting in overloading which may shut the circuit automatically and also result in electric fires.
Hope it helps!
