An oxidizing agent is one that oxidizes other substances  by accepting electrons or by providing hydrogen or an electronegative ion, or by removing hydrogen or an electropositive ion.

For example,

2KI + 2H₂O ---------> 2KOH + I₂

Potassium iodide is oxydized to iodine by loss of electropositive ion.

Thus, here hydrogen peroxide is the oxidizing agent.

Some examples of oxidizing agents are_

(i) Solids: Manganese dioxide, red lead, lead dioxide, potassium permanganate (KMnO₄), potassium dichromate (K₂Cr₂O₇), bleaching powder, etc.

(ii) Liquids: Hydrogen peroxide, conc. nitric acid, conc. sulphuric acid, bromine, etc.

(iii) Gaseous: Oxygen, ozone, chlorine, sulpher dioxide, etc.

Oxidizing agent is the substance that oxidizes other substances and itself get reduced

Oxidizing agent takes electron from other ssubastances and gets reduced while the other substance gets oxidized

Mostly halogens are good oxidizing agent
