Define Photosynthesis.
Answers
Photosynthesis, the process by which green plants and certain other organisms transform light energy into chemical energy. During photosynthesis in green plants, light energy is captured and used to convert water, carbon dioxide, and minerals into oxygen and energy-rich organic compounds.
Photosynthesis:
The process by which plants prepare their own food is called photosynthesis. It is the process by which plants produce glucose by utilising carbon dioxide , water and sunlight ( solar energy ) .
The leaves of plants contain a green pigment called chlorophyll . This pigment imparts green colour to the plants and traps the solar energy . Plants take in carbon dioxide from the surrounding air . Water and minerals are absorbed by the roots and transported to the site of photosynthesis . Leaves are the main site of photosynthesis in plants .
