Potential Energy is the energy stored in an object by virtue of its position or configuration with respect to a zero position.

Eg:-  1.  Gravitational potential energy - Energy stored in an object by virtue of its position with respect to The Earth. 
        
         2. Spring Potential Energy - Energy stored in springs by virtue of its configuration.
