$Example:-$

To check whether $8, 22, 12 \:and \:33$ are in the proportion or not,

We have to find the ratio of:

$8 \:to\: 22$ and the ratio of $12 \:to\: 33.$

$8.22 = \frac{8}{22} = \frac{4}{11} = 4.11$

$12.33 = \frac{12}{33} = \frac{4}{11} = 4.11$

Therefore,

$8, 22, 12$ and $33$ are in the proportion as $8 : 22$ and$\:12 : 33$ are equal.
