In Indian law, public interest litigation means litigation for the protection of the public interest. It is litigationintroduced in a court of law, not by the aggrieved party but by the court itself or by any other private party.

Public Interest Litigation (PIL)
Any citizen of India can go to the court if the interest of the public has been planted affected by the deeds of the government. This is known as Public Interest Litigation (PIL). The courts then study the case of if necessary,issue orders to check the malpractices of public officials and prevent the misuse of power by the government.
