Relative speed-

When a relation is expressed between the speeds of two persons or vehicles, it is known as their relative speed.

• Two facts are kept in mind while finding the relative speed

(1) If both persons move in the same direction, their relative speed will be equal to the difference of their indivisual speeds.

(2) If the two persons move in opposite directions, their relative speed will be equal to the sum of their individual speeds.

To find distance or time if speed is known-

Example 1 :-

• Speed of a train is 75/hour. What distance will it travel in 4 hours?

Solution:-

Given : Speed = 75 km/hr , Time = 4 hrs

So, Distance = Speed×Time =75 × 4 =300 km Ans

Example 2 :-

• In what time a truck going with the speed 60 km/hr will cover a distance of 300 km?

Solution :-

Given : Speed = 60 km/hr, Distance = 300 km.

So, Time = Distance/Speed =300/60 = 5 hrs Ans
