  • When the direction of acceleration is opposite to the direction of Velocity , then it called retardation or deacceleration .
  • If dirⁿ of Velocity is taken positive , then dirⁿ of acceleration will be negative.
  • For ex - We will se here two examples-
  1. When brakes are applied to the car , then its speed decreases and finally it comes to rest .
  2. When a ball is thrown vertically upwards , its speed gradually decreases and at a height its velocity becomes zero.

  2. When a body is projected vertically upwards from ground at a speed v ,and another object is dropped from a tower of height h , then they will meet after time = h / v .
