define rigidity with respect to the chapter matter

Rigidity refers to the property of a solid to resist change in its shape . when an outside force is applied . in most simple term , rigidity means stiffness. the particle in a solid are very closely packed and there are very strong forces of attraction between them, so solids possess high rigidity.
