Roasting- Process of heating the concentrated ore in the presence of excess air to a high temperature before it is reduced to metal.
Ex- 2ZnS + 3O2 - 2ZnO + 2SO2
Calcination- Process of heating the ore in a limited supply of air or in absence of air at a temperature just below its melting point or not sufficient to melt the ore.
Ex- ZnCO3 - ZnO + CO2
