The differences in physical traits between the two sexes. Without even realizing it, we were likely thinking about both primary and secondary characteristics.

The list below shows some of these characteristic differences between human males and females.

  • In men, these include:
  1. More pronounced body hair characteristics (beard, chest, etc.) and usually more coarse
  2. Heavier musculature
  3. Angular features (i.e. square jaw, triangular mid region)
  4. Narrow hips
  5. Muscular pectorals (chest)
  6. Less fat tissue overall
  7. Deeper voice
  • In women, these include:

  1. Less pronounced body hair characteristics (mostly in pubic region, hair all over is usually finer)
  2. Lighter musculature
  3. Rounded features (i.e. softer facial features, hourglass mid-region)
  4. Wider hips (for child bearing)
  5. More pronounced breasts with more fatty tissue
  6. More fat tissue overall
  7. Higher voice
