Sericulture, or silk farming, is the cultivation of silkworms to produce silk. Although there are several commercial species of silkworms, Bombyx mori is the most widely used and intensively studied silkworm. Silk was believed to have first been produced in China as early as the Neolithic Period.

Silk is produced by silk moths, sometimes known as'silkworms.'
Explanation:
- Sericulture is the practise of raising silkworms for the purpose of producing silk. The rearing of silkworms or silk moths to generate silk is hence the definition of sericulture or silk farming.
- Silk fibre is obtained from the cocoons of silkworms. The practise of rearing silkworms for their silk cocoons in order to obtain silk fibre dates back thousands of years.
- Silk from silkworms is produced using a variety of sericulture techniques. The current method of sericulture uses modern rotating mountage or chandrike, a particular rearing house, silkworm hybrids, and so on, whereas the traditional approach collects silkworm cocoons on a circular bamboo frame.
