In sociology, socialization is the process of internalizing the norms and ideologies of society. Socialization is important in the process of personality formation. Human infants are born without any culture.  They must be transformed by their parents, teachers, and others into cultural and socially adept animals.  The general process of acquiring culture is referred to as socialization  click this icon to hear the preceding term pronounced.  During socialization, we learn the language of the culture we are born into as well as the roles we are to play in life.

According to Horton and Hunt, " socialization is the process whereby one internalizes the norms of his group so that a distinct self emerges, unique to this individual".

Aims:

● it develops skills and capacities needed to fit into the society.

● it teaches social roles and its supporting attitude.

● it instills aspirations and satisfies need of the individual.

● it helps in transfer of culture from generation to generation.

Agencies:

● the family is the first and foremost agency in the process of socialization, an individual is born its family is the first social institution that teaches all the social values that, that individual will continue in his life.

● the school is the second social institution that teaches an individual about socialization.

● friends or peer groups are the third institution in the process of socialization is also play an important role in this process as child other than spending time with his family spends most of his time with his friends which have a major influence on the childs behaviour.
