Species is a population of individuals who’s re capable of interbreeding to provide fertile offsprings.
Geographical isolation due to various barriers like mountains, river and oceans lead to reproductive isolation. This prevents gene flow between the different groups of he population.
For e.g.:
A group of beetles feeding on bushes spread over a mountain range. Individual beetles however feed on nearby bushes. The beetles thus form groups. There are different sub population in each neighbourhood and reproduction takes place within the sub population.
Occasionally a migrant beetle enters a different sub population and starts reproducing with them. The genes of the migrant beetle enters the new population.
The two groups become more and More different.
Genetic drift and natural selection create more variations and individuals in the two groups become more diverse.
Ultimately the two groups will produce individuals which are incapable of reproducing with each other. This new species is produced.
