Define stress and explain the types of stress.

nishtha123436: goos
afriendofyours: what's that
afriendofyours: huh
nishtha123436: stress is a tension or pressure created on a material object
nishtha123436: It is of three types. I) acute II) chronic III) episodic
abhi178: It is the question based on mechanical properties of matter. Not a psychological question :
nishtha123436: really. Then sorry

basically , stress is restoring force per unit area. Or you can say When a body is subjected to a deforming force, a restoring force occurs in the body which is equal in magnitude but opposite in direction to the applied force. This restoring force per unit area is known as stress.

There are mainly three different type of stress , longitudinal stress , which consists of tensile stress and compressive stress, Tangential or shearing stress and Hydraulic stress.

Tensile stress : When a body is stretched by two equal forces applied normal to its cross-sectional area, then restoring force per unit area in this case is known as tensile stress.

similarly, compressive stress : When a body is compressed under the action of applied forces, this restoring force per unit area is known as compressive stress.
