Stress is the amount of restoring force per unit area of a material (Restoring force/Area). It's unit is same as that of pressure, N/m^2. Strain is the amount of change or deformation caused due to stress applied. The type of strain applied depends on the dimension which is changed due to the given stress. Example, if the length changes then it is longitudinal stress (change in length/original length) and if volume changes it is Volumetric stress
