Answer:

RADIUS OF CURVATURE:the radius of sphere of which the spherical mirror is a part , is called the radius of curvature

PRINCIPAL AXIS:

it is the straight line joining pole of the mirror to its centre of curvature.

FOCAL LENGTH:

In concave mirror: the focus of the mirror is a point on the principal axis through which the light rays incident parallel to the principal axis, pass after reflection from the mirror.

In convex mirror:

The focus of convex mirror is a point on the principal axis from which, the light rays incident to the principal axis, appears to come, after reflection from mirror.

DEFINE THE FOLLOWING TERMS IN RELATION TO SPHERICAL MIRRORS

  • PRINCIPAL AXIS
  • FOCAL LENGTH
  • PRINCIPAL FOCUS
  • CENTER OF CURVATURE
  • RADIUS OF CURVATURE

★ PRINCIPAL AXIS ★

THE STRAIGHT LINE THAT GOES TO THE CENTRE OF THE SPHERICAL MIRROR AT RIGHT ANGLE TO THE MIRROR IS CALLED PRINCIPAL AXIS

★ FOCAL LENGTH ★

IT IS THE DISTANCE ON PRINCIPAL AXIS FROM PRINCIPAL FOCUS TO THE POLES OF SPHERICAL MIRROR

★ PRINCIPAL FOCUS ★

IT IS A POINT ON PRINCIPAL AXIS WHERE ALL REFLECTED RAYS ARE EITHER CONVERGE OR DIVERGE

★ CENTER OF CURVATURE ★

IT IS THE CENTRE OF THE SPHERE WHICH MIRROR IS A PART

★ RADIUS OF CURVATURE ★

IT IS A DISTANCE ON PRINCIPAL AXIS FROM CENTRE OF CURVATURE TO THE POLES OF SPHERICAL MIRROR
