Physical changes are changes affecting the form of a chemical substance, but not itschemical composition. Physical changes are used to separate mixtures into their component compounds, but can not usually be used to separate compounds intochemical elements or simpler compounds
Melting of an ice is physical changes because it involves change only in the physical state of water, from ice in the solid state to water in the liquid state. Moreover, no new chemical substance is formed in the process and this change is reversible. Water can be converted back into ice simply by freezing
