Adsorbent is a material on which adsorption occur.it means which bear the adsorption.
Adsorbate is a material which makes adsorption.it means which material is responsible for adsorption.

The solid substance on the surface of which adsorption occurs is called as adsorbent.

The substance that get adsorbed on the solid surface are called as adsorbate.

Ink gets adsorbed on the surface of chalk.

Here adsorbent is chalk

adsorbate is ink
