Chemical which have a bitter taste and sopy in feel. There are three types of base strong base ,weak base and some base are water soluble called alkalies .Some properties are :1) it react with acid and formation of salt ,2)the colour of litmus paper change colour into blue.

✨Base = A base is an oxide or hydroxide of a metal . bases which are soluble in water are called alkali . all alkali are bases but all bases are not alkalis because all base are not soluble in water .

Bases are mainly two types :-

✨ Soluble in water = bases which are soluble in water are called alkalis .

For example :- potassium hydroxide (KOH), sodium hydroxide (NAOH), -----------ETC

✨ Insoluble in water = insoluble bases in water when react with acid , form salt and water .

For example :- FeO, ZnO, Al2O3 -----------ETC. insoluble in water , are bases

properties of bases :-

✨it turns red litmus to blue .
✨it has bitter and in taste .
✨it turns methyl orange yellow.
✨it yields salt and water when it reacts with acids.
✨A strong base is a good conductor of electricity.
