Cell is the smallest structural and functional unit of an organism.

Explanation:

  • Cell is typically microscopic and consists of cytoplasm and a nucleus enclosed in a membrane.
  • Cells are often called the building blocks of life.
  • In plant cells we also have plastids and cell wall.
  • None of them are called the structural and functional unit of life because the functions and structures of cell organelle cumulatively sum up to the function of the cell .
  • However, an individual organelle is incapable of carrying all the activities of a cell .
  • Its main function is to hold together the organelles which make up the cytoplasm.
