Periodic motion, in physics, motion repeated in equal intervals of time. Periodic motion is performed, for example, by a rocking chair, a bouncing ball, a vibrating tuning fork, a swing in motion, the Earth in its orbit around the Sun, and a water wave. ... Simple harmonic motion is a special case of periodic motion.

Periodic motion is a motion which is repeated by a body in equal intervals of time. The interval or cycle for the repetition of motion is known as a period and the number of periods per unit time is known as frequency of that body performing periodic motion.

Example of periodic motion are tuning fork, swing in motion, bouncing ball.

Two examples of periodic motion used to measure time are

1)Rotation of earth about axis

2)Revolution of earth around sun and moon.

3)Simple harmonic motion of bob tied to a fixed point used to measure its time period.
