Refractive index has no units because the refractive index is the ***ratio*** of the speed of light within the material of interest divided by the speed of light in a vacuum, thus the consistent units of measure (meters per second, or kilometers per second, etc.) cancel out and you’re left with just a number know as the index of refraction.
