the term " latent" literally translates into hidden which means the meaning of latent heat is the hidden heat .

During the change of state of matter , the energy to make or break the bonds between the particles can not be measured or recorded , even though there is a continuous supply of heat . this phenomena is known as latent heat .

hope it will help you :)

and yea an example of this is when water changes into vapour , that is latent heat of vaporization .
