Subsistence agriculture occurs when farmers grow food crops to feed themselves and their families.
Four characteristics of primitive subsistence agriculture are-
i). Primitive subsistence agriculture is practiced on small patches of land with the help of primitive tools like hoe, dao and digging sticks with the help of family/community.
ii). This type of farming depends upon the monsoon, natural fertility of the soil and suitability of other environmental conditions for the crops to be grown.
iii). Under this, farmers produce for self-consumption.
iv). Per hectare availability of land is very low.
Subsistence agriculture is the form of agriculture in which the farmer uses the products of farming for the needs of his own family and not to sell on markets.
Primitive subsistence farming is a method of subsistence agriculture which uses primitive or old methods for farming.
In this method of farming:
1)The people use primitive tools such as hoe, do, digging sticks etc.
2)They use small patches of land for agriculture.
3)This type of farming depends on monsoon, natural fertility of the soil and suitability of other environmental conditions.
4)The products are used for self needs of the farmer's family.
