velocity is a physical vector quantity both magnitude and direction are needed to define it the scalar absolute value of velocity is called speed being a coherent derived unit whose quantity is measured in the si as metres per second

Answer:

Wave Velocity – Definition and its SI unit….

Explanation:

As we are already aware with the term Velocity, it is defined as the Distance that is covered by any object or Body within Unit time. so it is described as Distance travelled within the period of time taken to cover that distance.

Now as we are speaking of the Wave Velocity, then we can say that it is the Distance travelled by the wave within a Period of time (Unit Time).

As we are already aware that Wave is a form of disturbance that travels through the medium, so now redefining the definition for wave velocity, we can say that It is the velocity with which the disturbance with which the particles of the medium travel within a Unit time.

Now again as we can say that Wave disturbance is in the form of Crest and troughs, so wave velocity can also be described as total number of Crests or troughs that travel through the given medium in unit time.

Now as we know Wave velocity = Distance travelled / Time taken

So, it’s unit is Unit of distance / unit of time = Meters / Second or m per sec. or mS^-1.
