The ratio of the speed of light in a vacuum to the speed of light in the medium is known as refractive index

When light ray is going from one medium (other than vacuum or air) to another medium then the value of refractive index is said to be relative refractive index

Hyyyy......
Here is ur answer...

REFRACTIVE INDEX
It is defined as ratio of sine of angle of incidence to the Sine of angle of refraction.
It is also defined as the ratio of speed of light in a given pair of medium.

n = V1 / V2
Where,
n = Refractive index
V1 = Velocity of light in medium 1
V2 = Velocity of light in medium 2

RELATIVE REFRACTIVE INDEX
When light is going from one medium to another then value of refractive index is called relative refractive index.
