Tyndall effect is basically scattering of a beam of light when passed through a solution. Water is considered a compound because it consists of more than one one element(oxygen and hydrogen). A compound is when diff. types of elements combine.

Water is considered a compound b/c it is made up of two different elements '' Hydrogen (H2) and Oxygen (O2).
