Define Valency. Explain with the help of a few examples

Valency is the number of electrons gained, lost or shared by it with other atoms during a chemical change.
Examples:
In H₂O the valency of O is 2.
In NH₃ the valency of N is 3.
In CH₄ the valency of C is 4.

What is valency ?

=> Valency is the combining capacity of an atom with another atom (s) .

This is normally given by the number of Valence electrons or by 8 minus the Valence electrons (Only when the number of Valence electrons is more than 4) .

3) Lithium (Li) = 1
