to make an electromagnet you only have the following material:--
soft iron core , copper wire ,battery.
procedure :--
now you arrange these material in a electric circuit in a following way:
first copper wire has been wrapped around on the soft iron core till then u connected a battery to both the ends of copper wire .now u put compass near it and then it shows deflection hence magnetism is produced.but when u stop the flow of current then compaas will not show any deflection,it means it's position remain same.
now your electric magnet or electromagnet has been ready ...\
